Biography of Javier Bobes Bascarán
Since childhood - due to my family environment and tradition, I always wanted to become a health professional. As a young man I became interested on dentistry, five years later I obtained my dental degree at University of Oviedo (Spain), and it was just the starting point.
Over the years and after each single course I completed, I became more and more aware that the mouth plays an important role in whole body health. Social and self-esteem problems, heart diseases, diabetes, body posture problems, headache, neck pain, movements disorders, etc. have all been linked to dental problems. Preventive dentistry is the best way to keep our bodies in the healthiest condition.
As my career progressed I realized that dentistry was an extensive field with multiple paths, my keen interest in the subject made me want to train in all of them. The first stage was prosthesis, then I went on to study occlusion and TMD (MSc and other post degree courses), followed by restorative dentistry, then snoring and sleep apnea, kinesiology and posturology (post degree courses), implantology (postdegree courses), aesthetic, and orthodontics.
Also, I have scientific interests. The principal one has been my PhD thesis (University of Oviedo) related to biomechanics in Implant Supported Prosthesis. Furthermore, I have spoken in several meetings of the Spanish Society of Prosthesis and Esthetics (SEPES), Spanish Society of Temporomandibular disorders and orofacial Pain (SEDCYDO) and of the Illustrious Dental College of Asturias.
